Boeing Clippers For Dominion ?
Visiting Official Says “No” MB. HAROLD GATTY MAKES INDIGNANT REPLY Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. It is highly likely that the new 6000 horse-power Boeing Clippers which are being built for Pan-American Airways at Seattle will not come to New Zealand, but that two will replace those on the San Francisco-Hong Kong route and the other four will be commissioned for the trans-atlantic service, stated Judge Wood, post office inspector at Honolulu, a through passenger on the Monterey from Sydney. There was a prospect, he said, also of the present China Clippers starting an AmericanNew Zealand service at the beginning of 1939. “The information Judge Wood has is not up to date and is not in accord with advice sent to me,” said Mr. Harold Gatty, special representative of Pan-American Airways in New Zealand and Australia, when tho above statement was referred to him. “He has no authority to make statements for the company and tho statement is not in agreement with tho latest information to hand. The Martin Clippers on the China run were specially designed for that service and there is no intention to use them on the New Zealand route,” Mr. Gatty continued. “It is definitely the intention of the company to use Boeings, which are now undergoing tests, on the Auckland Mr. Gatty added that it was anticipated that the New Zealand service would be resumed, not in 1939, but before the end of this year.
