Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors
JULY MEETING HELD The monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors was held iu tho association rooms yesterday morning. There were present Mesdames G. G. Priest (in the chair), C. A. Small, R. Jamieson, F. G. Jolly, Misses Grigor, Forrest, C. Warburton, Kelly and Saunders (secretary). Several apologies were received. Correspondence was received from the National office of the Y.W.C.A. concern ing the appointment of a second national secretary, to specialise in the training of secretaries, and in programme work with younger girls. The financial statement was adopted, and the accounts passed for payment. The general secretary reported on all activities. Junior citizens: The time of meeting of the Junior Citizens has been changed to 4.30 owing to school basketball. An impetus has been given to the dancing by the practising of a play which includes dancing. It is hoped to stage this with the Girl Citizens’ Drama Festival to be held at the end of July. Handcrafts include silver paper pictures and the making of a scrap book of Now Zealand to be sent at Miss Stevenson’s request to her in Singapore. Girl Citizens: At present all four sections are busy preparing plays for their drama festival on July 30. Those not taking part in the plays aro busy making properties for them. The two new leaders, Miss D. Eggers and Miss M. Matthews, aro of great assistance. A very successful games evening was held at the Y.M.C.A. when 50 Girl Citizens and 40 Hi-Y boys combined for a most enjoyable social. Dominion community gathering is to be held on Thursday) August 13. French Club: This club, with a membership of 37, lias now been divided into senior and junior, and meets every third Friday ovoning at 55.30 for nidging, tea and club, French being spoken all the time. The association is indebted to Miss K. Birnie for her expert leadership. Miss Law paid a visit to this club during her stay. Basketball: Basketball has suffered owing to lack of practice, though the A team has not yet suffered defeat. Business Girls* Lyceum: The ance at this club fluctuates to a great extent. Ballroom dancing has now finished. The drama group is rehearsing the Biblical play, “Martha and Mary,” which may bo used at the annual meeting. Miss Law spoke to the group on several types of programme. Employment: During tho mohth the following have been received: Requests for household help, etc., 16; applications for positions, three; positions filled, one; applications for board, 10. Special Efforts: During the month, special efforts included a stall at the Show, and an all nations banquet iu honour of Miss Ethel Law,.national secretary of the Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand.
Activities committee: It was Miss Law’s suggestion that those who were concerned with actual programme activities be approached to form an activities committee.
Business and pi*ofcssional women: The report of the Business and Professional Club was given by Miss Warburton, who spoke of the proposed affilia-
