Miss Betty Drysdale recently spent a short holiday with relatives at Lower Hutt. , . , Ronnie Petersen, who broke his leg plaving footoall on Saturday, is an inmate of tho Pahiatua Hosuital, and reports state that he is doing quite well. His friends will wish him a speedy recovery. Mr and Mrs J. B. O'Neill are away on holiday. Miss I. M. Spring is in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Pat Spring, of Taranaki, were recent guests of Mr and Mrs J. Spring, Senr. Mr and Mrs F. Hansen, and Mr L. Hansen, recently spent a few days in Napier. Mr M. Rundell, of Tauranga, was a recent guest of Mr and Mrs A. Houston. Rifle Club. At the weekly shoot of the Nireaha Miniature Rifle Club the following scores were registered: L. Sigvertsen 99, C. P Clout 99, L. Gibson 99, M. Stewart 99, W Manser 96, N. Petersen 95, Miss B. Petersen 94, L. Lilley 98, B. Davidson 92, R. Hanson 95, R. Shannon 95. G. Drysdale 64, S. R. Blewett 95, J. Petersen 97, R. Petersen 98, K. Death S 3, A. Butler 65. The handicap limit was 99. The weekly trophy was won by C.N.Clout. Ping Pong. Over sixty people attended Uie recent ping pong evening, when ladder matches were played, and several changes took place on the ladder. A challenge match lias been arranged with the Sigvertsen family team of Rongokokako, and will eventuate at an early date. Sunday School. A Sunday school class has been formed at Nireaha, the leaders and teachers being Mrs A. Golder, Mrs Wilkin and Miss Nancy Drysdale. Fifteen attended the first meeting, a good response to the efforts of the sponsors, and it is hoped that this good work will flourish. The recent Bible class evening was attended by ten members, and an enjoyable meeting eventuated. The next meeting will be held on Monday evening, July 4. Football. On Saturday the Nireaha thirds journeyed to Mangatainoka, and were defeated by 21 points to 6. During the game, R. Petersen, of the Nireaha team, suffered a compound fracturo of the leg. and this unfortunate happening somewhat upset his team-mates, who did not grea.tly worry about the result of the game after the accident occurred. The same afternoon the seniors journeyed to Hamua and were beaten by 6 points to 5. Nireaha w r ere unlucky to lose, having much the better of the game. Several attempts to goal from penal!tes were narrowly missed. Nireaha led until two minutes from full time, when a Nireaha player was penalised and H. Cooper kicked a great goal for Hamua. For Nireaha, C. Goss scored, R. Lawrence conoverting. Hamua’a points came from an unconverted try by T. Cavahag-h and a penalty goal. Mr Charlie Skilton was the referee. Following the game. Mr and Mrs Harold Russell entertained tho visitors at afternoon tea. Next Saturday Nireaha plays the championship leaders, Tolu, and if their best team is available, Toki should cvperience their first defeat of the season. Ladies’ Hockey. On Saturday afternoon the local ladles hookey team played the United team on the local Domain and were beaten by 6 r' :' nr r r a % 00<1 Wme. This is United ti first win lor the season, and will no doubt inspire them with greater confidence for their remaining matches. During the match. Miss A. Dick, of the United team. had tho misfortune to have her nose broken. Card Party arid Dance. The card party and dance held on Saturday evening under the auspices of the Nireaha I< ootball Club was well attended. Winners of the card trophies were as follr C 1 A* Goss 1; consolation, Mr A. Hanson; ladies, Miss B. Butler 1, consolation, Miss L. Shannon. Music for the dance was supplied by Messrs W. W Drysdale, A. Hanson, J. p. Brookes and John Drysdale. The following have donated trophies for future evenings: Messrs J. P. Petersen, C. A. Goss. W. Drvsrtale and N. Petersen. It has been decided that all profits from the next three evenings will go to a benefit fund for Ron
Petersen, an injured player. Raffles will be conducted each evening. Mr H. Eagb has offered to donate a 31b. box of chocolates for a general raffle, and this offer was gladly accepted. Mangatainoka footballers have also offered to hold a. benefit dance, a sporting gesture, ami the Rongokokako folk have also offered to help in a similar manner.
