Annual Meeting of Woodville Croquet Club
The annual meeting of the Woodville Croquet Club was held on April 7, Mrs. Halpin presiding. The annual report and balance sheet was read and adopted, the latter showing a very creditable balance. Annual Report. The annual report stated: —The lawns were officially opened in October by his Worship tho Mayor, Mr. H. P. Horne. The day was beautifully line and a large number of visitors and members from other clubs were present. Tbe afternoon was spent in competitions and half-hour games. Owing to a depleted membership, which was caused by members leaving and through sickness, we were unable to send a team to participate in the inter-club matches for the Manawatu association banner. The members have always looked forward to these matches with the keenest interest and they hope to be able to send a team next year. The long dry summer gave the members every opportunity for continued play, but through circumstances which were unavoidable full advantage of the weather conditions could not be taken. A street stall held in March was an outstanding success and the best thaaks are due to all those who helped in this direction. A scries of 500 and bridge afternoons proved a great success both socially and financially. Wo hope, with an increased membership, to be able to start the button and cup matches which were abandoned owing to the senior members not being able to play. It is with regret wo have to record the resignation of Mrs. R. Henderson, who has always been a most loyal and helpful member of the club. The members showed their appreciation when with a few intimate friends she was presented with a lovely crystal powder bowl and Victorian posy. The best wishes of the club were voiced by the president, Mrs. Halpin. Tho function was held on the la .vns, and a very enjoyable time was spent. Mr. Kenyon has something to be proud of in 'the line condition of the lawns, flattering remarks being passed by visiting players. At the end of the season the lawns were top dressed and members will agree this was well worth while, as the condition showed such a marvellous improvement. Several of our members journeyed to Pahiatua and were the guests of the Pahiatua Croquet Club, being hospitably entertained. Mrs. Kenyon was successful in winning the trophy for the highest score in the half-hour games. We are deeply indebted to Mrs. Kenyon in her dual role of supervisor and secretary, her work in this connection calling for the highest praise. To Mr. Hustwick for kindly auditing the books and to all members for their loyalty and co-opera-tion I would say many thanks. Wei trust the new season will bring in- , creased prosperity and a larger memberj ship. 1 Election of Officers. f The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. J. Halpin (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Mesdames Curry and Whillan; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. D. Kenyon (re-elected); committee, all members; referees, Mesdames McCarthy, Halpin, Kenyon and Curry; press reporter, Mrs. Halpin; greens committee, Mesdames Curry, Kenyon, McCarthy, Duke and Halpin; supervisor, Mrs. Kenyon.
