From Our Own Correspondent. Captain B. A. Norman, commanding Uin motorised section of the Alanawatu Alounted Rifles, returns home on Thursday. Mr F. Nagel has returned from a brief holiday trip to the Wairaxapa, where he joined a deer-stalking expedition into the ranges at the back of Eketahuna. Air and Airs J. Percy intend spending the Easter vacation in Auckland. Aliss O. Clausen was a recent visitor to relatives in the district. The social committee of the Opiki Hall Society has recommenced activities and it is expected a dance will be held shortly. The peat fires this summer have been responsible for much damage to property in the lower Plains. One farmer has had seven acres of good surface soil badly affected, and it will be some time before it
can be brought into production again. Sheep farmers are experiencing trouble with facial eczema among tlieir flocks, due to the abnormal season.
