Lodge Members Form Guard of Honour For Recent Bride

TURNER—SMITH On March 19 at St. Peter’s Church, Terrace End, a wedding attracting much interest was celebrated when Eileen Ellen, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Smith, of Main street, Palmerston North, was married to George William, elder son of Mrs. M. Turner and the late William Turner, of Palmerston North. The ceremony was performed by Rev. F. S. Ramson, Mr. H. Porteous playing the wedding music. Wearing a graceful gown of needlerun lace over satin, the bride entered the church escorted by her father. The bodice of the bridal robe had a V-shap-ed neck and was shirred in front and finished with a sprig of orange blossom, tiny satin buttons also finishing the back. The long sleeves were tightfitting to the wrists where they were pointed to match the neckline, and the skirt was fashioned to form a train. Her tulle veil, which had been worn by her mother on her wedding day, was edged with lace, and caught to her head with a circlet of orange blossom and billowed softly over the train. A necklet of diamante and a sheaf of clematis and pink roses completed a charming ensemble.

The attendant ’maids were Miss Elsie Thompson and Miss Norma Turner, sister of the bridegroom, who were frocked alike in pale pink net over taffeta fashioned in a style reminiscent of 1900. The bodices were made with bolero effect caught with diamante clips and the overskirts were very full. They wore bandeaux of wood pulp flowers and carried bouquets of pink belladonna lilies, michaelmas daisies and maiden hair fern.

The bridegroom’s brother, Mr. N. Turner, supported him as best man and Mr. J. Wilson was the groomsman. The ushers at the church were Mr. L. Burns and Master Frank Smith, brother of the bride.

Members of Hinekoa Rebekah Lodge, of which the bride is a member, formed a guard of honour as the young couple left the church.

Some eighty guests were hospitably entertained at the reception following which was held at the Jade tea rooms. The bride’s mother wore a frock of navy ■wool georgette and lace with rose pink shoulder spray, and a navy hat, her posy being composed of pink verbena. The bridegroom’s mother had chosen a navy ensemble and navy hat relieved with cherry and white trimmings and her posy was of red geraniums.

The decorations in the lounge and on the breakfast tables were in tones harmonising with the bridal party, and centering the pride’s table was the handsome three-tiered wedding cake, a gift from Mr. and Mrs. A. Grady, of Palmerston North.

Rev. F. S. Ramson ably fulfilled the duties of toastmaster and the usual felicitations were offered, the reading of greetings from Dublin (Ireland) being received with applause. When the bride and bridegroom left by car on a tour of the North Island, the bride appeared for travelling in a model brown frock shirred at the shoulders and finished with a white posy. With this she wore a tailored tweed coat cut on princess lines and a smart

brown toque and eye veil with accessories to tone.

Mr. and Mrs. Turner have taken up their residence in their new home in Palmerston North. Some of the bouquets and posies had been made by the : bridegroom ’a mother. Lampard, Ngaio street, where much merriment was caused when the party arrived in fancy dress, revealing film stars and back-to-child-liood characters. After a delightful supper had been served the guest of honour was called upon to open many parcels containing useful gifts, Miss Smith then thanked the company, adding special thanks to the hostesses for their genero sity in arranging the party.
