From Our Own Correspondent. Social Club.
At the annual meeting of the local Social Club there was an attendance of 28 members. Mr H. K. Knight (president) was in the chair, and expressed gratification at the interest shown during the season. The annual report and balance sheet were commented upon favourably by members, there being a credit balance of £6 10s lOci. A special vote of thanks was accorded Mrs J. Powell for supervising the supper arrangements, and also the Carnarvon hall committee for their favourable terms to the club regarding hall hire. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. A. Corry; president. Mr R. K. Ayres; secretary, Mr R. S. Hodge; committee, Mrs G. R. Robinson, Miss Ayres and Mr Eric Clare; vice-presidents (subject to their consent). Mrs W. Barnett, Messrs W. J. Frecklington, P. T. Scott, J. C. Warren, J. Powell and G. R. McKenzie. The secretary reported that two ping-pong tables had been secured and would be available on the opening night. A vote of thanks for pase services was accorded Mr and Mrs H. K. Knight, who did not seek re-election to the committee. Further arrangements and the date of the opening night were left in the hands of the committee. W.D.F.U. On Saturday afternoon, Mrs W. Davis and Mrs C. W. Davison, president and secretary, respectively of the Rongotea W.D.F.U., attended a meeting in the hall and outlined the aims and objects of the Division to a number of local ladies. They were successful in securing quite a fair percentage of new members from this district, bringing the membership of the Rongotea branch to well over 100. Added interest should now be shown, as the W.D.F.U. has combined with the local branch of the Farmers’ Union, and both meetings will be held on the same night in future. The last Tuesday in each month is the night decided upon. A vote of thanks was accorded Mesdames Davis and Davison for attending the meeting. Personal. Mrs T Hayes has returned home from hospital and is progressing satisfactorily. Mr and Mrs R. W. Wrightson, late of Ohingaiti, are at present visiting relatives in this district. Mr and Mrs F. .T. Zajonskowski. accompanied bv Miss Delcie and Master Maurice, left on Saturday for a tour of the North. Mrs R. D. McKelvie has returned home from hospital. Mrs P. T. Scott has returned from Wanganui.
