W.E.A. Annual Meeting
ADDRESS BY ORGANISER The annual meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the W.E.A. is to be held in the Trades Hall this evening at 7.30 p.in., when the 1937 committtee will present its report and balancesheet, and the new committee for the 1938 session will be elected. During 1937 au interesting series of public lectures upon a variety of educational subjects, both cultural and social, was inaugurated and proved very popular, showing that they met a definite need in the community life of Palmerston North. In addition a number of study groups were formed to carry on more intensive study in economics, international affairs, etc. For 193 S plans are under way lor a further series of 24 weekly public lectures upon science, music, drama, etc. The importance of adult education in the life of the community cannot be exaggerated, and the growing realisation of its importance is shown by the action of the Government in the setting up of a National Council of Education and the inauguration of an adult educational experiment in Feilding. The W.E.A. by reason of its long experience, its Dominion-wide organisation and its close connection with the universities, is enabled to carry on intensive adult educational work up to university standards and the Palmerston North committee have reason to be proud of their work during 1937 and every reason to be hopeful of the possibilities for 1935.
