“ The Queen’s Husband ”

“It’s a Repertory show,” is a watchword with a fulness of meaning when applied to the Manawatu Repertory Society’s Opera House production, “The Queen’s Husband.” After weeks of even-tempered but strenuous rehearsals the cast, under tho eagle eye of Mr. Fred Cousins, tho producer, has a full grip of the play and will do themselves, the society and its producer the utmost credit. The final niceties of voice iu•fleetion, stage mannerisms, etc., which give any production its finish have been added and now everything is in train for the opening night on next Thursday, April 7. Home of the highlights of the show might include the King's first entrance when he alnblcs his way into a hornet’s nest with his Queen, his Prime Minister and his Foreign Minister, tho noisiest of the hornets, and clamly produces a penguin that he has picked up at a dealer’s in tho city. Then there is the occasion during the Revolution scenes when, while the Palace, tho locale of the plot, is being submitted to heavy gunfire, the affable King suggests to the anxious lovers, Anno and Granton, that it would be a good idea to open up some champagne and have a party. And so, through the play there runs an undercurrent of sly wit garnished with a little drama, pathos and revolutionary noises.
