Trotting at Awapuni

DAME FASHION IN SOMBRE MOOD Autumn tints prevailed on Saturday when the annual meeting of the Manawatu Trotting Club was held at Awa puni. The frocking, while for the most part conservative, except for accessories and hats in particular which went from one extreme to the other, was mainly limited to the conventional tint and tailleur with a sprinkling of the ever favoured tunic frocks. The popular colours were rust, gold, henna, green, navy, brown and black, especially the last mentioned, and hats varied from Bretons to all varieties of the halo.

The grounds, too, were In harmony with the changing of the season— French and African marigolds, dahlias and dwarf fuchsias and native and imported shrubs providing a background of reds and yellows and the deciduous trees adding their quota of autumn tints.

Among the fair punters seen were Mrs. W. Mouldey (wife of the president), who was wearing a dress of London rust and black coat and hat to tone; the Mayoress, Mrs. A. E. Mans ford, in a smart black tailleur and hat; Mrs. R. H. Collinson, brown and white figured silk with matching hat and fur stole; also Mesdames A. Farland, N. Ballinger, J. Mummery, Adam Burgess, D.
