Revue Company’s Loss

NEARLY £IOO TAKEN FROM THEATRE / AUCKLAND, March 15. The takings of a crowded house of children and their parents at the matinee performance of Frank Neil 7 s revue company at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday afternoon, amounting to nearly £IOO, was stolen from the office of the theatre later in the afternoon. After being checked and balanced in the usual manner, the money, comprised of notes, silver and copper, was placed in a bag and then in a drawer in the office desk. The door was locked by the treasurer. For about half an hour, between 5.30 and 6 o’clock, the treasurer was out of the office, and on his returu he found the door unlocked and the money missing.

The door of the office, which adjoins the manager’s office, is only five paces from the Durham street entrance. It would have been comparatively simple for the intruder to have slipped in and out again unnoticed within a few seconds. In addition, the office door is removed from the close surveillance of the various door-keepers and general staff. Detectives commenced investigations on Saturday evening and continued their inquiries throughout yesterday. No arrest had been made at a late hour last night.
