Old Boys Football Club

1 ANNUAL MEETING Mr. K. W. Eglinton, who presided at the annual meeting of the Old Bovs 7 Football Club last evening, congratulated the club on the success it had obtained in the various grades. He considered that the senior grade, although not as strong as in previous seasons, had put up a good showing and had won the sudden-death competition. The juniors had enjoyed a very successful season, having won three trophies. The thirds were a very young team and showed improvement as the season advanced. He also wished to convey the club’s thanks to Messrs. J. Ryan, H. Palmer and W. S. Fox for their untiring efforts as coaches. Reference was also made to the wonderful club and team spirit which prevailed. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. J. W. Rutherfurd; president, Mr. K. W. Eglinton; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. Murray, J. Colquhoun, B. Palmer, A. E. Mansford, C. Mowlem and E. Bary; club captain, Mr. W. 8. Fox; committee, Messrs. R. Shand, F. L. Irvine, N. Gallichan, Y. Fleming and J. Marriott; trustees, Messrs. A. E. Mansford, J. W. Rutherfurd and W. E. Norris; hon. auditor, Mr. D. G. Glendinning; hon. secretary, Mr. W. H. Simmons; hon. dance secretary, Mr. W. H. Simmons, Mr. G. H. Dawick (assistant); delegates to the annual meeting of the Rugby Union, Messrs. J. Marriott, B. Palmer, K. W. Eglinton, J. Ryan, G. Dawick and F. L. Irvine. The first practice was set down for Saturday, April 2, although training operations had started at the High School grounds in the evenings. The annual club picnic is to be held at Raumai this Sunday. RUGBY REFEREES PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON MR. L. G. BERRY RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT Mr. L. G. Berry (president) was in the chair at the annual meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Referees 7 Association, which was held last evening, and there was a satisfactory attendance of members. Report and Balance-sheet. The report (already published) and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of the president and Mr. Hands, and there was no discussion, everyone agreeing that the year had been a very happy one for ffhe association. Election of Officers. Officers for the year were elected as under:— President, Mr. L. G. Berry; vicepresident, Mr. A. Gordon; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. H. White; delegate to the Rugby Union, Mr. H. Hands; appointment board and classification committee, the president, Mr. Hands and the secretary; delegates to N.Z. Rugby referees 7 conference, Mr. Hands; auditor, Mr. E. W. Low. Mr. F. Thomas (Feilding) wrote resigning from the association, indicatng he had been transferred to Utiku.

Mr. Thomas 7 resignation was accepted with regret, and it was resolved to advise the Taihape Referees 7 Association.

It was resolved to forward the transfers of Messrs C. Pinfold and G. Cooksley to the Auckland Referees 7 Association.

The Auckland Association wrote forwarding the transfer of Mr. H. M. Scott, stating that he would prove a valuable member of the Manawatu Association.

When the question of remits for the annual conference was introduced, it was resolved that a remit advocating the centralisation of the annual conference be sent oa from the Manawatu Association.

It was argued that centralisation would be better for all concerned and that the expenses would bo reduced to the minimum.

It was decided that the association should meet each week on Thursday evenings, the first meeting to be a fortnight before the season opens, and that the instructional classes be continued.
