Lawn Tennis

MANAWATU ACTIVITIES Mr. J. T. McDonald presided over a meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association last evening. Takaro Club forwarded a protest against Northern Club playing two A grade players in a B grade match against Takaro. The chairman said he had given permission for one of the players but not the other who had played three times in A grade matches. Mrs. French, Northern delegate, said the latter player was fifth on the club ladder and she had been used to fill vacancies in the A team. Northern Club recognised the protest must be sustained. The protest was upheld and the match credited to Takaro. An amendment by the Takaro delegate that the game be replayed, lapsed for want of a seconder. The South Canterbury Association advised that their president, Mr. W. M. Sexton, Timaru, would be residing in Palmerston North and they would be pleased if the Manawatu Association would make contact with him. The following schools nominated teams for the secondary schools 7 tournament to be held on Saturday:—Palmerston North Convent High School, Feilding Agricultural High School, Woodville District High School, Palmerston North Technical High School, Levin District High School, Palmerston North Boys 7 High School and Palmerston North Girls 7 High School. There is a total of four boys 7 teams and six girls 7 teams. Winners of the inter-club competitions were declared as follows:—A grade, Palmerston North; B grade (first division), Takaro; B grade (second division), West End; C grade, Northern.

Mr. D. W. Creed submitted a B grade ranking list not necessarily in order of merit. He pointed out the difficulty he had had in working from team sheets as clubs changed their players so often and he hoped clubs would give co-opera-tion to ensure that their players received the advantage of the experience to be gained by playing ranking matches. Mr. Creed suggested a com mittee to decide the order of merit and added that there were other players whose names should possibly be on the list, but a start had tr. be made somewhere.

Delegate? mentioned players whom they thought should be on the list and Mr. Creed said a revision would meet with his desires as the list should be brought up to ten men and ten women. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. C. C. Yates, J. Christie and D. W. Creed was set up to revise the list.
