Received Wednesday, 7.5 p.m. LONDON, March 15, Jubilant crowds invaded the Jewish quarter, where families were hauleu out of their houses aud forced on tv their knees to scrub from the pavements printed slogans such as "Hen. Schusclmigg," which were part of ilio plebiscite campaign, says the. Daily l’elegraph’s Vienna correspondent. The proceedings were watched by jeering crowds. Police and btorni Troopers later scattered the anti-Semitic mob, which was getting out of hand. Already many Jews have committed suicide, says the Vienna correspondent, of the Times. Dr. Kurt Schuschnigg is reported to have married the 27-year-old Couuiew of Fugger last Monday at Belvedere Palace, reports the Vienna correspondent of the Daily Mail. Dr. Schuschnigg’s first wife was killed in a motor accident in 1935. It is still impossible to obtain details of the enormous number of arrests carried out by Storm Troopers and police since Friday, but it is learned that practically the whole of the Government Press Department have been imprisoned. Big Jewish cafes, shops and hotels are being seized throughout Vienna by Nazis. It vvas officially broadcast that the ballot paper for the i>lebiscite reads: "Do you acknowledge Adolf Hitler as our Fuehrer and acknowledge the reunion of Austria with the German Reich, which was effected on March 131" All civilian traffic in the Austrian part of the Brenmer Pass is halted, says the Munich correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. Austrian aud German brown-shirt battalions are being evacuated and German troops alone are allowed there. The frontier between Austria and Bavaria is closed to prevent Bavarian shoppers flocking to Austria and buying foodstuffs and materials unobtainable in Germany.
