Dr. T. Gilray, consulting surgeon at the Napier Public Hospital, was granted six months’ leave of absence by the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board. Dr. Giiray is to visit England. The appointment of Dr. E. L. Fitzgerald, of Brunnerton, West Coast, to the position of medical superintendent of the Auckland Infirmary, Epsom, was made by the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday.—Press Association. In further recognition of the work that Mr. G. G. bad done for the Palmerston North Technical School during his term as director, the Technical School Committee decided last night to place an enlarged photograph of him in the school.
Condolence with the relatives of the late Mr F. J. Nathan and the late Mr W. A. Keeling was expressed by the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. & P. Association yesterday, when it was decided to send letters of sympathy to the relatives.
The Manawatu A. & P. Association at it 3 general committee meeting yesterday elected the following vice-presidents for tho coming year: Messrs C. E. Vile (senior vice-president), B. E. Keiller, E W. Barnett, J. Hodgens, M.P., A. E. Mansford and W. J. Blundell (Wellington).
Mr. A. H. Dobbie, formerly deputyregistrar of the Supremo Court, Auckland, has arrived at Wanganui to succeed Mr. W. S. Jones as registrar oi the Supreme Court and clerk of the Magistrate’s Court. Mr. Jones, who has been transferred to Christchurch, where he will be clerk of tho Magistrate’s Court, will leave this week. Dr. Gordon Anderson, Wellington, has booked to leave Auckland for Vancouver by the Aoraugi on March 22. After a tour of the United States and Canada, during which he will undertake some post-graduate study, Dr. Anderson will proceed to Europe, and may attend a medical conference in Vienna. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Anderson. They will probably be away for the best part of a year. Mr. S. S. Timbs, who judged the New Zealand chilled beef championship at the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s 1937 show, will leave at an early date on a visit to England. Mr. Timbs has always taken a keen interest in Now Zealand chilled beef and while in London will make extensive inquiries as to the requirements at that end. Ho expects to arrive back in Wanganui next October. Mr. H. S, Moston, assistant-secretary of the Department of Labour, has been selected by the Government as a delegate to the International Labour Conference at Geneva. Mr. Arthur Cook, secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, who is to represent organised workers at the conference, intends to take passage in the Orford, leaviug Fremantle on May 2. He will travel across Australia by rail.
Regret at the fact that that Mr T. R. Hodder is retiring from the treasurcr--hip of the Manawatu A. & P. Association was voiecd by the general commit mittee of that body yesterday, and recognition of his services is to be paid at the Association’s annual meeting. Mr Hodder told the committee that he had become a member of the Association in 18S9, and the greater part of the time since then had been spent on the committee. He felt the time had come for
him to give way to a younger man. He would continue to take an interest in Lie affairs of the Association, and as an honorary life member, the committee would still sec him at meetings.
