Rugby in Feilding
OLD BOYS CLUB REPORT The following is the annual report of tho Feilding Old Boys’ Rugby Football Club:—“Tho committeo report a successful season, especially in the lower grades, both teams disx>laying creditable football. The sequence of championships won by Feilding Old Boys seniors was w ell broken by the Kia Toa XV, our team showing little of their old dash apd enthusiasm. The annual union soven-a-sido tournament, resulted in another win for our senior seven. The cup presented by tho late Air. E. Houlihan for general all-round club sx>irit was won by James Finlay. Tho club suffered a severe loss by the death of one of our finest types of footballers, and one of our most respected and imxmlar members, tho late Air. Hone Knyvctt. Wo wish to thank all footballers for their generosity in x )a >’i n S their last respects to Mr. Knyvett, who was as X>opular with his opponents as with his own team-mates. We were also unfortunate to lose two of our most loyal supporters, tho late Alessrs E. Houlihan and E. Way, two of those genuine types of gentlemen who were responsible for tho fostering of Rugby football with its old traditions. We wish to congratulate Messrs Waugh, Bramwell, Finlay and Ewart, who represented tho Alanawatu A team, also Alessrs Crumi?, Kennedy, Kcnevcu and Street, who were junior representatives, and Mr. Waugh, on being picked for the All Black trials. The club is deeply indebted to Air. Bull lor his keenness and hard work in his endeavour to bring the senior XV to the top rung of the ladder, which we are sorry to say was not appreciated by the majority of the players. Alessrs Bramwell and Pearce, also by untiring efforts, were able to mould the junior and third fifteens respectively into first-class sides. The financial position of the club is most satisfactory, tho funds amounting to a substantial amount. We also reX>ort an almost complete roll of iinuncia. members. We wish to thank the president and vice-x>rcsidents for their loyal support, and hope that this year our teams will provide football that will reciprocate tlieir interest in us. Our aunual ball was au even bigger success than the x >rev i° us one, and the club is deeply indebted to the lady helpers under Air. and Airs. Jenkins, w r ko worked so hard and unsparingly to make this event a success. We also note that former club members have been doing
well in other parts; namely, John Thurston, who represented Wellington, and played in the All Black trials. Alcrvyn Devine also represented Wellington in the trials, whilst George Alitchcll did well in League circles in Auckland. The committee also wishes to express sympathy to Rex Harris, a most enthusiastic member and player, whose injury received in a x>ractice match two years ago has not stood up to the strain in his endeavour to get lit again and rcX>resent us. The club regrets the loss, as he had only to show his form of two years ago, and he would have made a sixth Feilding Old Boys representative at the All Black trials in the season just past. We wish to thank all our followers for their generous support and hope the black and white team will again, respond by showing that form which made them so popular in years
past. ’ ’ All members and intending members of the Feilding Old Boys Football Club are reminded of the annual meeting, which is being held in the Drill hall supper room, Feilding, on Thursday evening, Alarch 17, at half past seven.
