Killed While Cycling Between Railway Tracks
NO BLAME ATTACHABLE TO DRIVER OR FIREMAN Per Press Association. TIMARU, Last Night. No blame was attachable to the enginedriver and fireman of the express, said the Coroner (Mr. H. Morgan) at the inquest into the death of James Campbell McKeowen, a railway employee, who was struck by the northbound express while cycling alongside the track on February 21. The evidence showed that it was the custom for railwaymen to ride between the tracks without danger as long as they remained in the centre. McKeowen veered towards the train and wobbled into it. Death was instantaneous, MoKeowen receiving extensive injuries any one of which was sufficient to cause death.
