Apology Sought
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I was hoping that I would have received an apology, or at least some definite expression of regret from the Mayor, Mr. T. Collins, before now, for a very detrimental utterance he made concerning me last Thursday morning. I refer to a statement he made to the effect that one councillor published correspondence regarding the Town Hall question which amounted to a “pack of lies.” Now, I was the only councillor who wrote to the Press on the Town Hall question, and that fact was well known to all the councillors present, and probably, also to quite a number of the citizens of Feilding. The accusation of publishing a “pack of lies” was undoubtedly meant for me, though in all my experience of Press correspondence (and it dates back several years before my election to the Power Board in 1929) it is tlie first time I have met with anything of tho sort. I am not in the habit of publishing lies, and to be told so for the first time, by the Mayor of my town—well, it beggars expression! As I stated at the beginning of this letter, I hoped to receive an apology by now, but will give the Mayor a further three days’ grace before taking any other steps I may consider necessary to remove this unjustified reflection on my name.—l am. etc., P. G. GUY 14/3/37.
