Baer Outpoints Farr

In a 15-round heavyweight boxing bout Max Baer (15.2) defeated Tommy Fair (14.123) on points. Eighteen thousand peojde crowded out Madison Square Garden. Farr, who was favourite, lost the first round and was down for a count of one iu the second. After 30 seconds’ fighting in the third round Baer floored Farr for a count of six following a right to the temple. Farr was bleeding from below the right eye. He improved in the fourth round, scoring with lefts and rights to the body and the fifth round was evenly contested. Baer was tiring and his left eye was almost closed. However, he won the next three rounds with smashing rights to the head. He sneered when Farr missed with a right to the head and failed with his left. Although not escaping punishment Baer pounded Farr unmercifully about the head. Farr opened the ninth with a furious assault, scoring lefts and rights to the head and body. Both men’s noses were bleeding. Farr won the tenth and eleventh, Baer’s left eye being completely closed Both were swinging wildly in th 6 twelfth. Baer was tiring but Farr was quite fresh and the crowd were screaming with excitement. The Englishman led in the thirteenth, but Baer then took the offensive. He scored with a nice right to the head, saying: “H’owja like that one! ” Baer was lighting beautifully and following several rings to the head Farr slipped to his knees, but got up valiantly and broke through Baer’s guard. Baer had won the thirteenth and fourteenth rounds. The men refused to shake hands before the fifteenth. Farr opend wildly and both ineu were exchanging lefts and rights at the bell.
