Ward, who is engaged in the construction of the new railway bridge over the Kangitikei river at Kakariki He received painful injuries which need ed medical attention. The cable which Air. Ward was holding was attached to a pulley at the top of a 40-foot pojc, mid fastened to another pole some yards away. This second pole fell to the decking of the brilgc pulling the man almost to the pulley on number one pole. Had the second pole fallen into the river and not on to the decking the victim wool i certainly have been pulled through the pulley and received terrible injuries with perhaps fatal consequences. As it was he was found to bo painfully hurt. The fingers of his left hand were badly crushed and his arm considerably cut about. The left shoulder was bruised and the muscles torn. To remove the unfortunate man from his predicament it was necessary for fellow-workmen to reach him with ladders. He was then conveyed to Alarton and attended by a doctor. Others on the job were amazed that Ward came off so lightly.
