FURTHER PROCEEDINGS CANCELLED Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. IV. The police have decided not to proceed with the charge against Randall Reginald ! David Smith, the Arundel murderer, of obtaining goods by means of a valueless cheque. After being sentenced to death, at Timaru for the murder of William Gaby, at Arundel, Smith was brought before the Timaru Magistrate’s Courtlast week cn a charge of obtaining money and goods to the value of £8 16s 7d at Seacliff, on September 13, three days after the murder, by means of a valueless cheque. On the application of the police he was remanded to appear at Christchjirch to-day, but it was announced this morning that, in accordance with the request of the police, the Magistrate (Mr. E. C. Levvey) had cancelled all further proceedings.
