The Peking correspondent of The Times states that the Japanese claim to have captured Weihwei, on the PekingHankow railway north of Chengchow. Shanghai reports that the Japanese have captured Changyuan, whence they have advanced to Febkiu, 12 miles north of Kaifeng. Another column is advancing on Liuhsien. The Chinese claim that two regiments entered Tsining, which was captured by the Japanese on January 12. The Hong Kong correspondent of the Daily Mail says Italy is claiming £250,000 compensation from China for being ousted from Nanshang aero factory and other enterprises.

Several Australian and American women belonging to tho Independent Gospel Boat Mission had a narrow escape when Japanese 'planes attacked their boats on the Yellow River at Kaifeng. They had a terrifying experience when 'planes bombed and machine-gunned their boats. Misß Helen Bailey, an American, received five slight wounds. Shanghai rex-iorts that Mr. James Walsh, formerly of the American Navy and now on business in China, has complained to the American Consulate that a Japanese naval officer forced him to sweep the floor of a patrol station at Honkew, and then, after stamping on the charred remains of an American flag, belaboured him with a rubber hose.
