/ — , . - From Our Own Correspondent The first meeting for the year of the Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday, Mrs Murray occupying the chair In the absence of Mrs Fletcher. The competition for the best jar of Jam was won by Mrs Holland, Mrs Murray being second and Mrs Rowland third. The best bloom competition resulted: Mrs Stephenson 1, Mrs Fletcher 2, Mrs Rowland 3. A letter from the president was read, thanking members for their help during the year. Competitions for the next meeting will be for the best bottle of preserved fruit, and best bloom from the garden. Members are reminded of the annual meeting, and also that nominations for the new committee must be In by February 21. Mrs Smerdon has returned to Christchurch after visiting her father, Mr Bowler. Miss Betty Campbell has returned from an extensive tour of the South Island. Mr and Mrs Young, of Wauganui, have taken up their residence in Longbura. Mrs Bockett is the guest of Mm W* Frandsea.
