Interest in Sydney

VISIT OR NEW ZEALAND EXSERVICEMEN.

Th© forthcoming visit of more than ICOO New Zealand returned soldiers to Sydney at tho invitation of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers’ Imperial League of Australia is causing great interest in Australia and comprehensive plans are being arranged for their reception and entertainment. The New Zealanders will leave by the steamers Maunganui and Monowai from Welling ton on April 19th, arrive at Sydney on Saturday, April 23rd, leave Sydney on Thursday, April 28th, and arrive back at Wellington on Monday, May 2nd. The visit has been arranged as part of the sesquicentennial celebrations, and on Anzac Day the visitors will be given pride of place in the procession, in which 50,000 ex-servicemen are expected to take part. Headquarters of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association in a circular stated that it was strongly recommended that if at all possible, for the sake of uniformity and for the appearance of the contingent, each member should wear a dark suit, dark grey felt hat, and black footwear. It was not intended that any unnecessary expenditure should be occasioned, and by “dark’ was meant that it might be dark brown, dark grey, or dark blue. The arrangements for exchanging Nsw Zealand currency were also explained. As an indication of the widespread interest created by the visit of the New Zealanders, “Reveille,” the official organ of the R.S.S.I.L. of Australia, a bright, well-written and well-informed paper, is devoting its April number almost exclusively to the achievements of the “diggers” of the N.Z.E.F. in their war-time and post-war fields. This is a distinct compliment and the production of the paper is being undertaken on the most ambitious lines, famous statesmen, writers and soldiers having agreed to -contribute with article and story. The April number of “Reveille” will be available in the Dominion before the departure of tho contingent.
