The town clerk of Pahiatua, Mr. L. D. Lovelock, reported to the borough councillors at their last monthly meeting that of the £4140 (1937-38) current year’s rates, the sum of £4OIO 15s lOd had been collected, representing a collection of 97 per cent., as agaiqst a collection of 95.9 per cent, for the same date last year. This year’s collection creates a record so far as the Pahiatua borough is concerned. Borough councillors, clergy, press and other representatives of local bodies were the guests of the management of the King’s Theatre yesterday afternoon at a special screening of "Fury Over Spain.” This educational film is showing in conjunction with the ordinary picture programme at the King’s Theatre to-night and is a graphic account of the Spanish war from the overthrow of the monarchy to the present day.
