AUSTRALIAN VISIT

Farmers at Hastings To-day FULL PROGRAMME READ? From Our Own Corre.Dondent. HASTINGS, Feb. 15. Under the leadership of Mr E. i*' Barraud, of Eyre’s Pninsula, South Australia, a party of Australian farmers will arrive in Hastings to-morrow from Gisborne In continuation °f a tour New Zealand. The party will beta the district for two evenings and one day, leaving then for the South Island. There are 29 in the party, and the women predominate, there being 15 men and 14 men. The personnel of tlv. party is as follows:—Mr E. J. Barraud, Mr and Mrs H. Chapman, Mr and Mrs H. V. Lord, Mr and Mrs H. S. Coombe, Miss R. E. Uren, Mrs M. B. Gardner, 1.. r Thiem, sen. Mr and Mrs R. Thiem, Mrs A Day, Miss R. N. Barnett, Mr and Mrs W Burdett and Miss Burdett, Mr and Mrs R. E. Lines, Mrs M. E. Haddy, Mr 3 A. E. Pitt, Mr A. J. Hammat, Mr H. J. Lawrie, Mr J. T. E Barclay, Mr G Pryor, Mr and Mrs J. G. Goldsack and Miss E. McKillop. At the present time the visitors are at Gisborne and leave there to-morro w morning, having lunch at Wairoa, and arrive in Hastings in the afternoon. They will stay at the Pacific Hotel, and the evening will be free for them, as no arrangements have been made in the v/ay of entertainment. On Thursday morning motor tours oi the district and visits to the Whakatu Freezing Works and to orchards, farms and other places have been arranged by the Hawke’s Bay branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, and in the afternoon further such trips and outIngE, including a visit to Mr W. A. Tod’s farm at Otane, as well as an inspection of the small farm settlement on the reclaimed land at Napier will be made, commencing from 1.40 o’clock. The women among the party will be token in hand by the Women’* Division of the Farmers’ Union and various informal gatherings have been arranged. In the evening a lecture is to be given by Mr J. Palmer, of the Agricultural Department, while picture parties are also to be made* up if desired. The party departs from Hastings on Friday morning for Palmerston North cn route to the South Island.
