Deplorable Conditions

From Our Own Correspondent. NAPIER, Feb. 15. •me existence of deplorable conditions was revealed in a report to the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board yesterday on the living premises occupied by a family of natives at OmahU, which was considered to be a breeding ground for tuberculosis. The. report, which arose from the amount of sickness occurring in this place, .stated that the walls were unlined and that there was only a dirt floor. Mr. C. A. Morse considered that the position as disclosed in the report called for a survey of the whole of the county district, which was ten times worse than the town areas. The assistance of every health' authority should be sought in dealing with what was a scar on the landscape. The board decided that copies of the report be forwarded to the Health Department, the Native Department and the Hawke’s Bay County Council.
