Life of Seclusion
AUCKLAND, Feb. 14. Clad in coarse, brown serge habits and heavily veiled, nine sisters entered the chapel of the Carmelite Monastery, Mount Roski 1, yesterday, and knelt at the altar rail. Bishop Liston then handed the key to the Mother Superior, who closed the door of the monastery and locked it from the inside. This was the impressive part of the ceremony at which Bishop Liston enclosed the Carmelite Sisters and blessed the convent building and the chapel. Prom the moment when the Mother Superior received the key from tho Bishop all external contact with the world was cut off, aud the nine Sisters may now receive visitors only at a grille which is curtained. The Sisters have devoted themselves to a lifetime of seclusion, contemplation aud prayer. The establishment of the Order is an innovation in the North Island, the only other convent of its kind in New Zealand being in Christchurch,
