Spirit Stoves Explode
FOXTON BEACH MISHAPS From Out Own Correspondent. MANAWAtU HEADB, Last Night. Two mishaps which might easily have had serious consequences are reported from campers at Foxton beach. In both cases spirit stoves were responsible. Mrs. A. Fraser, of Palmerston North, who is camping with Mr. and Mrs. Hausen, had the misfortuno to have her leg severely burned through a benzine lamp exploding, the contents splashing over her. She is suffering from the pain and shock of the burns.
Mr. Percy Daniels’ tent was destroyed through a bottle of methylated spirit with which he was lighting a primus stove, catching lire and exploding. The accident happened about 5 o’clock this morning, und though Mr. Daniels called for assistance, he received no response from nearby houses. He was unfortunate enough to lose part of his supply of clothing and groceries. Luckily he was able to save his blankets which were damaged to the extent of a severe scorching.
