An Ardent Worker for Peace
After three and a half years in Sydnew, Madame E. Meyer, wife of the new French Counsul at Auckland, arrived by the Awatea to join her husband. An ardent worker for peace, Madame Meyer belonged to the League of Nations Union in Sydney, helping this body in an organising capacity. She said that any organisation which had world peace for its motive had her sympathy and co-operation, for she had ,lived in Alsace during the Great War and saw its horrors at unpleasantly close quarters. j While in Sydney, Madame Meyer belonged to many organisations, chielflv kindergarten committees, children’s ‘hospital committees and societies for 1 the protection of animals. For all these | societies Madame Meyer used to organise parties and musicales at her home to raise funds for carrying on their work. Since her marriage in France 17 years ago, Madame Meyer has travelled considerably, her husband having been stationed in Germany, the United States and Australia. She said that each country had its own advantages
and disadvantages from the point of view of residence, and paid a particular tribute to the Australians, whom she had found to be hospitable and good-hearted.
