Women’s Institutes

WHAKARONGO At the October meeting Mrs Morris presided over a good attendance and welcomed as visitors Mesdames Wooua and Graham, Woodhouse and Misses Long and Woodd. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Hastings Radomski and Miss McCool. Mrs ' Heneghan was welcomed back to the meetings. The roll-call was “A Cure for the Blues.'’ Miss Yautier and Miss > Hodgson were nominated as press reporters. Mrs Uhrbom reported on the group committee meeting. The group j meeting is to be held in Kairanga on ' November 16. The competitions will i be for the best rainbow cake made j from the Institute cookery book (no ( icing) and the best shoulder spray. It I was found necessary to alter the next meeting day to Friday 19 on account of Aokautere flower show. A very enjoyable lecture on gardening was given by Miss Woodhouse, also a song by Miss Long. Guessing the hands and feet of committee members caused much amusement. Mrs Frith being the winner. The flower competition resulted:—Married ladies, Mrs Itomley 1, Mrs Speedy 2, Mrs Frith, Mrs H. R. Smith and Mrs Phillips tied 3; single ladies, Miss M. Speedy 3, Miss L. Speedy 2, Miss M. Hodgson and Miss R. Parkes 3. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Phillips, Jones, Jennings, Meyer and Miss Hodgson. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Long, Miss Woodhouse and the hostesses and the afternoon concluded with the National Anthem.
