HARBOUR LEASES
Committee Begins Task of Reviewing 32 CASES FOR CONSIDERATION Pvom Our Own Correspondent. NAPIER, July 16. It is anticipated that two days will be sufficient to dispose of the list ot applications made to the committee of valuers for review of certain Napier Harbour Board leases. The committee, which is to deal with 32 applications in all, commenced its sittings to-day. When questioned this morning, Mr. W. G. McClintock, tile Government valuer on the committee, explained that the committee consisted of three persona with equa( rights—ono appointed by the persons desiring a review of their new values created from 1928 to 1932, one (Mr. Vivian Cox) appointed by tho Napier Harbour Board, and one appointed by the Government. "The departmental committee which sittings nearly a year ago made certain recommendations to the Government and these were forwarded to the Harbour Board with a suggestion that they be acted upon,” Mr. McClintocU said. “After considering the request, the Harbour Board agreed to niiow a committee of valuers to readjust the rentals for the period from 1928 to 1932 in accordance with the basis adopted before and after that period. “It is not a matter of revaluing for renewal in these cases, we have a definite line of action to pursue, Out we have power to deal with these leases only in comparison with the othei periods—not as far as tn«j present da> valuations are concerned.” The committee, whoso members dur.ng the past, two days have been inquiring into matters for their invcs*’gation, will meet individual lessees or a representative of tho Harbour Board only if enlightenment is required on any points under consideration. Tho committee is carrying out an inspection of the properties in respect of which applications have been lodged. __
