Indifferent Batting

New Zealanders at Norfolk; ALARMING IN VIEW OF TEST (From Special Correspondent—United Press Association.) NORWICH, June 23. New Zealand neutralised effective bowling in the morning by indifferent batting during the afternoon. Gallichan struck a good length and Tindill was excellent behind the wickets. From a bad start the tourists never recovered. The batting breakdown was alarming in view of the presence of several batsmen who were among the mainstays of the probable side for the Test. The attendance was 2000. Scores:— NORFOLK

Bowling analysis:—Thompson, four for 42; Rought-Rought, three for 27; Abbs, one for 25; Pilch, one for 20. POSSIBLE EXPLANATION Or COLLAPSE. TOO MUCH PLAY AND TOO MUCH TRAVELLING. (From the special correspondent of the United Press Association.) Received Thursday, 10.30 p.m. NORWICH, June 24. A possible explanation of Now Zealand's batting collapse is sheer physical tiredness after a full day's fielding in the hot sun on a hard ground at Nottingham followed by a five-hour night bus ride to Norwich which was reached at nearly midnight and then another morning's fielding in great heat against Norfolk. The difficulty of arranging a tour both comprehensive and comfortable is immense. The team faces an almost uninterrupted sequence of playing aud travelling with many tiring night journeys. The free day before the Test will provide welcome relaxation.
