Feilding Farmers’ Ball

BRIGHT SOCIAL GATHERING. All the essentials for a successful ball were manifest at the annual assembly promoted by the Feilding branch of the Women's Division in- conjunction with the local branch of the Farmers' Union, held in the Drill hall on Wednesday night, and to the committee of ladies particularly, congratulations are duo for the perfect organisation which brought delight and happiness to an attendance of just over 500. The venture of bringing from Wellington the popular Majestic Dance Band proved distinctly successful, wnilo the further innovation of providing continuous music was appreciated by the dancers who voted the evening a memorable one. The decorations were again a feature of the ball and the artistic taste of Mr. Innes Jones excited much admiration for the effect attained. The dimlylit stage presented a delightful midnight effect with greenery silhouetted against a background of deepest blue on which glitted silver stars. Golden lights gleamed through a shower of amber and gold streamers in the centre of tho hall, from which radiated a canopy of fringed and twisted streamers in shades of ambei, gold and green. The white walls were banded with squares of amber and gold, and multicoloured fairy lights lined the front of the gallery. Charmingly effective were the huge modernistic plaques of cellophane of deep flame, silver and gold which caught and reflected the light from all parts of the hall. The supper is always a special feature of the Farmers' Ball, and the ladies' committee had provided a sitdown supper of all kinds of delicacies. Tho tables had been beautifully decorated by Mrs. H. E. Hocken and Miss Hazel Hocken, who created a delightful effect with flat bowls of orange and gold marigolds, chrysanthemums, Chineso lanterns and autumn leaves.
