Foreign-born Ambassadresses
The advisability of British diplomats marrying foreigners has been raised in the House of Commons. According to the Daily Telegraph, 26 members of the Diplomatic Service are married to ladies of foreign birth. Sir Ronald Lindsay, the senior Ambassador, is married to an American. So are Sir Howard Kennard (Warsaw) and Sir Henry Chilton (Spain). Sir Esmond Ovey (Brussels) married an American as his first wife. The present Lady Ovey is of French birth. Sir Archibald Clark Kerr (Bagdad) married a Chilean lady. Lady Lampson, the -wife |of Sir Miles Lampson, Ambassador in
Cairo, is the daughter of Bir Aldo Castellani, whose medical knowledge is equally highly esteemed in Great Britain as in his native Italy. He was principal medical officer to the Italian army in the Abyssinian War.
