Tk® Australian Associated Press political correspondent understands that during the Imperial Conference discussions on the international situation Britain informed the Dominions that the various countries’ viewpoints -were so divergent that there appears no hope at present of tackling the reform of the League of Nations. This constitutes a reply chiefly to Mr. Savage whose enthusiasm for the collective system, -which is generally regarded as dead, has undoubtedly been stimulated by his contacts with the British Labour party who are endeavouring to bring pressure on the British Government through the Imperial Conference.
The Dominions have been informed that League reform is hopeless as long as the deadlock remains in connection with the recognition of Italy’s conquest of Abyssinia. Some major Powers, including Britain and Prance, realise that Italy’s conquest is a fait accompli and while confessing that recognition is distasteful, believe they should cut their losses and recognise Abyssinia de jure now because such a step is ultimately unescapable.
