Hints About The Home Baby’s Bib. Instead of using brooches or pins to hold baby’s bib in position, sew ribbon or tape on the wrong side and tie round waist. Picking Up Pins. After sewing work, draw a steel magnet, attached to a long thread, over the floor, to pick up pins. House-Flannels. If old stockings are split open and tacked together they make excellent house-flannels. Brushing Ceilings. Make a hole in the half of a rubber ball and push handle through this so that ball forms a cup and catches drips and splashes. Blanket Washing. Blankets will keep soft and a good colour if a little soft soap and blue is added to the rinsing water. Shake well before hanging out. Scissors. Stand scissors for a few seconds in very hot water before cutting out georgette or other flimsy material and a clean even edge will be obtained. Saucepan Lids. Crush a piece of silicate of potash, the size of a walnut, and well mix with each one and a-half pounds of ordinary varnish paint. This will be as good as much more expensive enamel. Enamel Effects. A neat way of keeping them is to have two supports of wood fixed to the wall and the outer edges of these blocks connected by a strip of wood so that a space is left for the lids to be ranged along the wall with their handle resting on the strip of wood. Cleaning Blinds. After dusting a linen blind rub crossways with a mixture of flour and water that has been made into a stiff paste; it should not be sticky. Blind need not be removed from roller but to keep firm should be tacked to each side of the kitchen table. Renew paste as it gets dirty.
