PERSONALITIES

The death has occurred of Mr. Treeborn Parsons, of Benmore Station, Marlborough, aged 83. He was one of the leading pastoralists of the district. At Kaikoura in 1896 he set a world record rifle score at 700 yards with a Martini Henry rifle. He had competed at Bisley and in Australia. Mr E. Fisher, advisory engineer to the Palmerston North River Board, has been granted three months leave of absence for the purpose of making a health recuperating trip to Australia. Members of the board yesterday expressed regret that his health had not been fully restored following a recent illness, and washed him a speedy recovery.
