Sheep Hard to Sell

WETHER LAMBS EASIEST From Our Own Correspondent. HASTINGS, March 17. The yarding of 13,000 store sheep at Stortford Lodge met with a dull market in which the selling was slow and lifeless. Values were easier for practically all entries, the best selling lots being very forward, well-done’ wether lambs. The outstanding entry on account of Ohiti Station, being an early shorn well-bred entry showing quality throughout with a large number in killable order, selling at 19/6. Smail-grown woolly lines were hard to quit to 15/-. Breeding ewes were not in active demand, one of the best lines, a very early lambing proposition in from Puketapu, making 23/6. Fattening ewes made cheaper rates, ranging from 12/- down to 7/6 for very poor in condition lots. Values were made as under for selected entries. On account of Mr. R. Buddo, Te Mahanga, 76 mixed-aged ewes, a fattening proposition, brought 12/-. An entry of 108 fairly grown, woolly, white-faced lambs, in forward, sound order, realised 19/1. In off the Puketapu hills, 234 woolly wether lambs, medium grown and in light to medium order, brought 14/C. Off hill country on the Middle road, 23G store ewes, a fattening proposition, many being in light order, brought 12/6. An entry of 189 small-grown, late,! woolly, white-faced lambs, in healthy,sound order and just crutched, was passed at 13/9. On account of the Hakowhai Sta* ( tion, Puketapu, 138 late, woolly, whitefaced wether lambs, in sound, bright condition, were passed at 14/-. An entry of 223 small-grown, blackfaced lambs, in meaty condition, was sold at 17/-. An entry of 189 late-shorn, aged ewes for fattening, some being fairly well mouthed, brought 7/6. On account of Ohiti Station, 233 forward in condition, very early shorn, white-faced lambs, including a number of killablo sorts, made 19/6. On account of. Mr. J. Le Quesne, Puketapu, 110 five-year, guaranteed sound-mouthed ewes, running with Southdown rams since January .15, being a very early lambing proposition, were passed at 23/6. These ewes were well framed and in good sound condition. In from Waimarama, 15G fattening ewes in light to medium order brought HA. On account of Mr. S. Porter, Kahvaka, 127 five-year ewes, many being small framed but in very sound order and well mouthed, brought 20/9. An entry of 104 medium-framed, fiveyear ewes, running with three Southdown rams since March 1, brought 21/0. On account of Mr. J. Connor, Oraapere, 243 shorn, medium-grown, whitefaced wether lambs, in fresh, hardy condition, were passed at 14/9. An entry of 131 five-year ewes, well mouthed, carrying a good slipe, being in sound condition and running with three Southdown rams since March 1. made 20/9. Down from Argyll, 84 well-grown, early-shorn, twO-tooth ewes, iu good fresh condition, realised 32/6* On account of Mr T. Simcox, Puketitiri, TOO well-grown wethers, in very forward condition, being well woolled, topped the market at 26/3. An excellent entry of 96 well-grown, well-bred woolly white-faced wethe** lambs realised 21/10. On account of Le Quesne Bros., Puketapu 56 nicely grown, woolly ewe lambs, showing a touch of halfbred, being in very healthy order, were passed at 25/3.
