MEETING or THE COMMITTEE. The committee of the Feilding Municipal Band met on Thursday evening, the Mayor, Mr. T. Collins, presiding. There were also present Messrs. P. G. Guy, Vf. Wilkinson, E. Bould, G. Wilkinson, W. 11. Clayton, F. Kendall, E. A. Garlick and C. H. Tate (secretary). As announced in yesterday's “Times" the committee decided t.O accept provisionally the application cl Mr. Leatherby of the Onehunga Band as conductor. Tho committee dealt at length with the details of the proposed carnival effort and it was announced that a meeting of joint interests would be hold shortly to finalise matters for the launching of a queen carnival campaign to be concluded at the end of May. The Mayor submitted a verbal report on tho recent conference of brass bands’ delegates at Nelson, stating that Feilding's remit regarding the inclusion of bands in the Musicians’ Award had been withdrawn. The position was that certain professional bands benefited by the award and it was thought to exclude all bands would result in an injustice being done whilo it was admitted that to include all bands in the award would create hardship. It. W.as stated that individual bands could apply for exemption from the award and in withdrawing the remit which favoured the exclusion of bauds from the award, it was decided that each band take separate action in the matte: of remaining in or standing outside the award.
