S.S.M. J. H. Kearney has left Napier to take part in the National Rifle Association’s annual tournament at Trenthem. Canon Mortimer-Jones, of the parish of St. Matthew’s, Hastings, leaves on Wednesday next for Wellington, where he is sailing on Saturday by the Rangitiki for England. Canon MortimerJones, who first came to New Zealand 28 years ago, will have six months * holiday in England, and will visit his mother and sister, who live in Middlesex, and his brothers, Mr. H. I’A. Mor-timer-Jones, of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, and Mr. T. Mortimer-Jones, Gerard’s Cross. London. Mr. J. Ashton Chambers, superintendent of the Waipukurau Fire Brigade, and Mrs. Chambers have left for Nelson. Messrs Morland, Lomas and Lewis, Education Board inspectors, are at present on a visit to Central Hawke’s Bay. Mr. oud Mrs. Rod Mexted, of Whakatane, stayed a short time at Norsewood when returning home on their honeymoon. Mrs. M. Lucas has returned to Napier after a holiday spent with Mrs. George Coles, Ongaonga. Mr. J. J. Allen, of Nelson, accompanied by his daughter, who have been spending a holiday at Te Rehunga with tho former’s brother, Mr. B. W. Allen, have returned home. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Preston and Mlsb Shecna Preston have returned to Ardkeen after a holiday spent with Mrs. T. Preston, Keuclm Rise, and Mrs. R. W. Grayson, of Manutuke. Mrs. W. Laws, Hastings, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. A. Ramlose, at Nuhaka. Mr. M. R. Shaw, of Morere, is on a visit to Hastings. Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Tod, Miss Isobel and Master Landel Tod, of Nuhaka, are on a visit to Hastings. Mr. W. Tait, accompanied by Miss Mary and Master Gordon Tait, has left Morere for Hastings, where Miss M. Tait is to attend lona College, whilst Master G. Tait goes to Feiiding Agricultural High School. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Avison, who were visitors to Waipawa for the Har-greaves-Avison wedding, have returned to Dannevirke. There is a decline in the attendance at the Hastings High School this year compared with last year, and this is attributed by the principal, Mr. W. A. G. Penlington, to the decrease in the number of pupils returning to school and not to the fewer enrolment# of new pupils. The present role at the High School is in the vicinity of 450 compared with 484 on March 1 last year. Altogether there had been over ISO new pupils enrolled and this vai about the usual number recorded over recent years.
