A recent caller at a placement office was a marine engineer whose papers show that he was with Scott’s polar expedition in 1902-04, being a member of Evans’ boat crew. A Wellington firm, having notified the placement officer that the services of a fireman were required, the polar adventurer, who is over 60 years of age, was strongly recommended for the job. He was appointed, and is said to bo giving complete satisfaction
