New Suggestion for Penalising Bad Drivers

PLACED BEFORE AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION. A new suggestion for penalising drivers who break the more sorious motor regulations, was placed before the executive of the Automobile Association (Manawatu) last evening by the service officer, Mr V. P. James. The suggestion embraced the issue of a book of tickets or coupons containing a certain number, to be issued once with the driver’s license. If a driver was convicted for infringement of bylaws, besides the usual fine a coupou would be detached from the book, and for more serious offences he might lose live or six coupons. Jf convicted of drunkenness in charge of a car, he might have the whole book taken, tho ultimate design being that when all coupons were confiscated, he could under no circumstance be again issued a driving license. If, after some years of driving, one could show a * hole book, this would be something of which to be justly proud.

Members of the executive discussed tho idea at some length and thSn deferred decision till next meeting.
