Episode of Feilding Youth
SPENDS NIGHT IN OPEN AT TANGIMOANA. By some mischance three Feilding youths who went shooting rabbits at Tangimouua on Sunday became separated as evening came down and one of their number, Lloyd Ewen, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Ewen, of Kimboltou road, was obliged to spend a nigbt among the lupins on the sand dunes. Suffering no ill effects from his experience, Ewen was found yesterday morning by a party of searchers. The party comprised Ewen, C. Robson and P. Silcock, and after wandering over, the sand dune country they approached part of the afforestation plan tation where they separated, Ewen proceeding in one direction and the other two youths in another. The object was to search out for rabbits but as evening came down Ewen found that he had lost his bearings and endeavoured to attract attention by firing his gun without success. He attempted to find his way out towards the settlement and then gave it up and decided to spend the night in the shelter of the plantation. Yesterday morning he proceeded to make, as he thought, for Tangimoana, but found himself making for the coast so retraced his steps and was eventually found by searchers who were about to commence to scour the country. All were very relieved when Ewen’s safety was assured.
