Hawke’s Bay Labourers and An Award
SERIOUS CHARGES AND COUNTER CHARGES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. A charge that the name of tho Hawke’s Bay Builders, Contractors and General Labourers’ Union had beou added surreptitiously by the Conciliation Commissioner to an award, was made before tho Arbitration Court in chambers to-day, in tho dispute between the New Zealand Federation of Local Bodies, Builders and General Labourers and the Wellington Builders,* Contractors and General Labourers’ Union on the one hand and the Hawke's Bay Union on the other. Tho Hawke’s Bay Union claimed that its name had been added in a proper way and made counter charges of misrepresentation. After considering the case, his Honour said that at the request of the parties, t.ho award was put through by the Court at the session just before Christmas, for the convenience of tho parties and to assist them. In the normal course tho award could not have come forward until next session in Wellington. Both employers and workers were represented and asked that tho recommendations of the commissioner should be made into an award. It was the duty of those parties to cheek up every portion of the award and the parties hud themselves to blame if they failed to do that. The Court was asked to make an award and duly made an award and tho Judge signed it. That, therefore, must be the award and was the award of the Court. His Honour said that the signed copy of the award was not altered. If one of the parties considered that a mistake which was remediable had been made in including that union, it could make application to the Court and have evidence brought. In the meantime the award must stand.
