A husband and wife were killed and two others injured (one gravely and the other seriously) as a result of a shocking motor accident which occurred this evening on the Main North road about 12 miles from Masterton. CHARLES HERBERT HOWES, carpenter, of Masterton, condition very grave. B. WATERS, Masterton, exten- , aive injuries, condition fuirly serious. The two injured men were taken to hospital. The accident occurred on a bend on the road, the car, which was driven by Leslie Sharman, colliding with a transport lorry heavily laden with fruit and driven by Raymond Cedric Bushby, fruit merchant, of Hastings. Neither he nor his companion was injured. The car left Masterton about 6.30 p.m. on its way to Paßnerston North, Mr. and Mrs. Sharman occupying the front seat. The full force of the impact was felt on the driver’s side of the car, which was reduced to a mangled mass. Sharman was killed outright and Ids wife only lived for a few minutes. The lorry was able to proceed under its own power, but the car was damaged almost beyond repair. Sharman is survived by an only cbild, a girl of about eight years. He had been in Masterton for about 12 years and was very popular, taking a prominent part in sport and Foresters’ Lodge affairs. The late Mr. and Mrs. Sharman were well-known in Palmerston North. They were on their way to the city to attend an evening party. Mrs. Sharman was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Stevens, of Broadway, Palmerston North. DRIVE E KILLED WHEN OAR OVBHTUEN S.
