Wool Research and Publicity
CONFERENCE DECIDES TO CREATE FUND. UatUd Press Association—By Electrics T*l«srai>h.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. MELBOURNE, Jan. 17. Representatives of the Empire Wool Jonference decided to create an international fund to promote wool research and publicity overseas and to appeal for freedom of international trade from the restrictions jeopardising the future of the wool industry. A sub committee comprising Senator Guthrie Australia), Mr Christie (New Zealand), and Mr G. Mare (South Africa) was appointed to draft a bill for an option by the dominions dealing with advertising, description, marking and sale or disposal of manufactured goods made of or containing wool. Great Britain is to be asked to enact uniform legislation. A Sydney message states that Miss G. Valentine Howey, who to-day is returning to New Zealand, after two years’ business activity in England and the Continent on behalf of wool publicity in New Zealand, said it was good news to hear the Melbourne Wool Conference had agreed to promote a wool research and publicity fund. She, however, doubted the wisdom of aiming for a cut and dried policy with British interests only. Progressive manufacturers should only be too willing to cooperate in a dozen ways with any publicity organisation set up by growers.
