N.S.W. Olympic Swimming Hope
RECORD-SMASHING BOY. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Gopyrigh u Received Monday, 1 a.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 17. Swimming championships concluded here resulted in the discovery of a 13-year-old Newcastle boy champion, R. Newbiggin, who is regarded ns a definite Olympic hope. On four occasions during the week he smashed the 120 yards junior record and capped everything by winning the 220 yards country junior championship yesterday in the record time of 2.22 4-5. The 220 yards Australian champion ship was won by N. liyau from the title-holder, W. Fleming, tho Queenslander, in 2.18 1-5, which is a record for an Australian-born competitor. The 220 yards women’s championship of Australia was won by Miss Dorothy Green from the title-holder, Miss E. Delacey (both Westralians). Miss K. Mac Kay was third. Tho winner’s time, a record, was 2.32 1-5. The high board diving championship was won by the Victorian, It. Masters.
