Elaine Barrymore, the two-months iride of John Barrymore, has filed a suit for divorce on the ground of mental cruelty. She asks tor temporary support but does not intend to seek permanent alimony. The complainant accuses Barrymore of striking her at a New Year party after which they separated, and threatening to “kill or seriously maim.’ 1 She alleged that he called her vile, violent, obscene, indecent, profane and opprobrious names. She hesitated to bring the suit until he completed his current picture “May Time,’’ which is reported to be finished to-day. “After long and considerable thought 1 found the only possible course was to proceed with this action. 1 am regretful that our difficulties could not be smoothed and that we could not have continued together,' but it impossible. Now I plan to concentrate on my career. He was jealous because he was unable to participate in it. He was jealous of the actors who were to play with me in my first drama and jealous of the stage hands too.' 1 was determine?! he would not interfere and proceeded $o sign the contract.” Barrymore declined to comment.
