“On behalf of the staff and employees I have been asked to convey to tho chairman and councillors tho season’s greetings,” said Air. A. K. Drew (county clerk) at the close of yesterday ’s meeting of the Alanawatu County Council. Air. Drciv W'ent on to say that the staff were very appreciative of the council’s sympathetic consideration of their working conditions during the changing economic conditions. The chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber) said that it rvas very nice to know that the staff was satisfied with tho council’s treatment of their cases and he could assure Mr. Drew that the council was alive to the fact that it had a good staff. He ; concluded by reciprocating the season’s greetings and included members of the Press, whom he thanked for their careful reporting of the council’s proceedings.
National Party interests in the Awaliuri district are reminded of the public meeting to be held in the Awahuri hall on Thursday evening with the object of forming a branch. Five building permits for works valued at £2617 were issued in the Manawatu county last month. Reporting to yesterday’s meeting of the Alanawatu County Council, the engineer (Air. H. V. Bond) said that the survey in connection with the reconstruction of the Feilding-Awahuri road was still in progress. At yesterday’s meeting of the Alanaw r atu County Council a resolution was carried rescinding all special permits issued by the council £o district carriers authorising them to exceed the regulation ionnana nudes certain conditions.
